If you or family members develop symptoms you should see your health care provider immediately. Your health care provider will assess your risk for West Nile Virus infection. If you are determined to be at high risk, your provider will draw a blood sample and send it to the laboratory for confirmation. Depending on where the test is sent, you will generally be able to have results within 3 days to 2 weeks. If you have an extreme case, your doctor may recommend that you have your spinal fluid tested. Spinal taps are not done at the doctor's office.
