Lead Risk Assessment
Lead is a heavy metal used in many products before it was known to be
harmful. Although laws now prevent lead from being used, it can still
be in and around many homes. Certain products such as paints used in older
houses before 1978, lead solder used in plumbing, bullets and their casings,
art supplies (glazes), imported ceramics, and window blinds manufactured
overseas all may contain lead.
Children 6 and under are at greatest risk due to still developing bodies.
Exposure may lead to learning and behavioral problems and possibly damage
brains, kidneys, and other organs.
Lead risk assessments can be completed on all children 6 months to 6
years of age. This gives health care providers information on which
children fall into a high risk category. Lead testing is done on
children who fall into the high risk category or as a requirement for child
care or Head Start participation.
If your child participates in one of the Medicaid health plans this
service is provided by their physician at no additional cost.
Clients are seen by appointment only.
Services Include:
- Lead risk assessments and lead testing for uninsured children who
meet the criteria.
