Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are spread through anal, oral, or vaginal intercourse.  Some STDs, such as HIV and Hepatitis B, can also be transmitted by sharing drug paraphernalia.

Testing is important because often there are no symptoms in the beginning.  STDs can have consequences ranging from mild to serious such as infertility, tubal pregnancy, cancer and sterility.

Jackson County Health Department provides confidential STD and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) testing during the STD clinic.  Treatment is available as needed and high-risk reduction counseling is offered.  Most services and treatments given are free of charge except prescriptions for medication.

Effective July 1, 2011, a fee of $10 per patient will be charged for STD clinic visits, with a nurse practitioner.

Confidential testing and treatment is available for:

  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Chlamydia
  • Genital Warts
